MY one Word for 2017 is ABUNDANCE!
You know the score – It’s resolution time around the world!
According to the data pulled from Google by iQuanti, the most popular New Year’s resolutions in 2017 are:
- Get Healthy: 62,776,640 searches, a 13.77 percent increase over last year during the same time period, when it was searched 55,177,290 times.
- Get Organized: 33,230,420 searches, dipping by 7.41 percent compared to last year’s tally of 35,888,700.
- Live Life to the Fullest: 18,970,210, spiking by 13.04 percent from last year, when it maxed at 16,782,030.
- Learn New Hobbies: 17,438,670 searches, up 4.72 percent from last year’s total searches of 16,652,950.
- Spend Less/Save More: 15,905,290 searches, up 17.47 percent from 13,539,500 in 2016.
- Travel: 5,964,130 searches, down by 0.82 percent from 2015’s 6,013,550,
- Read More: 4,746,560 searches, down 5.63 percent from last year’s 5,029,790.
Unfortunately, despite very good intentions, millions of people will fail at their resolutions in just a few weeks. Why? Because resolutions depend on our willpower to succeed. And we lost our will power in the Garden of Eden!
So this year, instead of New Year Resolutions, I have decided to choose One Word for the year to be my inspiration, guide and focus.
I have chosen ABUNDANCE as my One Word, because I believe that we are entering a Season of Abundant Harvest. In this season, God is sending out His angels of abundant harvest to help those who have sown to the Spirit and into Kingdom business to bring in an overflowing harvest!
Here is the challenge of One Word:
Choose just one word.
One word you can focus on every day, all year long… One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live.
It will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your one word will shape not only your year, but also you. It will become the compass that directs your decisions and guides your steps.
Discover the big impact one word can make.
One word. 365 days. A changed life.
That’s right! One. Word! No more complicated, well-meaning New Year’s Resolutions that you cannot keep to. Just. One. Word. Simple, clear, straightforward, yet, meaningful and profound. Simply. One. Word!
However, if one isn’t careful, even the One Word could end up becoming like the New Year’s resolutions that one is trying to avoid.
So here are 7 keys to help make your One Word work:
Connecting with the Divine, has to be our number one priority at the start of any new year. We should aim to seek God’s will. We must approach Him in prayer fully expecting that He will lead, direct and guide us. And of course, this includes leading us to our One Word, if we ask Him.
In the course of the year, pray about your One Word. Pray throughout the year. You need divine to succeed. So pray, and pray some more!
2. Simply One Word
Consider choosing a word for the year to meditate on and guide you throughout the year. One word you can focus on every day, all year long… One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live in 2017.
3. Set Goals
It all begins with a well-formulated goal. You’re partly there if you’re following the SMART system pioneered by GE in the 1980s. But you can improve your chances by making your goals by using the goal-setting resource which I am using this year called Grace Goals which is available here in one click=> Click to Buy GRACE GOALS.
Grace Goals is the revolutionary way to set goals and approach change. Grace Goals is a PDF download with 5 mini-workshops that will take you through the process of:
- Setting practical, godly goals
- Developing a doable, personal plan for change
- Learning why grace is needed
- Recognizing and appropriating grace in your daily life
- And much more
4. Envision it
“Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run.” (Habakkuk 2:2 (The Message). Consider creating a Vision Board, as part of your goal-setting process. A vision board is a powerful tool to keep you inspired throughout the year.
5. Have Performance Triggers
These are simple statements or actions that streamline the process of reaching our goals. How? By anticipating whatever contingencies or obstacles we might face, we can cue a desired response. Instead of relying on our decision making in the moment (when our willpower might be at its lowest), Performance Triggers lock in our decisions in advance. Because they address contingencies, we can think of them as simple if/then or when/then statements.
6. Live it
Determine to make it work. With your One Word and goals, it’s time to live them out. Remember, as we said earlier, that it will take intentionality and commitment. But if you let it, your one word will shape not only your year, but also you. It will become the compass that directs your decisions and guides your steps throughout the year.
7. Have regular reviews
It was Socrates who is quoted as saying that “the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being”. Schedule regular reviews on the same day each month during the course of the year. Celebrate your success small and big. Hold yourself accountable.
My prayer is that 2017 will be Your Best Year YET!
